Spiritual hygiene is the practice of maintaining the cleanliness and health of one's spiritual and energetic body. It is similar to physical hygiene, but focuses on the spiritual essence, cleansing negative energies, and fostering a positive internal environment.
Spiritual hygiene involves creating a daily routine that fosters self-care, energy renewal, and resilience. It can help shield people from energy vampires and cultivate a positive and vibrant state of being.
Maintaining your spiritual hygiene could look like:
•Slowing down when you feel called to
•Cleansing your alter and sacred spaces often
•Keeping your home tidy
•Filling your cup
•Movement
•Play
•Journaling
•Solitude •Rest/Sleep
•Spiritual Baths
•Fasting
•Learning to say “NO”!
•Grounding
•Rituals
•Head Covering
PROTECTING YOUR ENERGY
Poor spiritual hygiene, also called spiritual contamination, can look like some of the things we're struggling with today. Negativity. Depression. Being bitter. Lack of boundaries. Making poor decisions. Suicidal ideation. Spiritual contamination can look like giving everyone access to you. Allowing everyone's input to affect who we are. Are we making ourselves available to anyone at anytime for any reason? Are we allowing our thoughts to be clouded by what others think of us? Do we allow the thoughts of others to suppress who we are? Poor spiritual hygiene is lacking control of what we allow to foster and cultivate around us and within us. You've heard of the quote that says we can't control anyone but we can control how we allow them affect us. Poor spiritual hygiene can be one of the reasons why we experience negativity in parts of our lives. It can be the reason for anxiety or long-term depression, among other factors of course.
Protecting your energy is an investment in your mental health.
Breathe in your power, Simply close your mouth and breath gently through your nose. Allow your attention to flow with your breath in and out of the body. Notice the rise and fall of your chest. Let you shoulders drop, relax your jaw all the while focusing on your breathing. Even just five slow, mindful breathes in and out work!
It’s important to remember that life is both ying and yang, negative and positive, light and dark. There is and always will be a mix of both elements, it’s how it is and you cannot change this. What matters most is being aware and noticing who, what and where lifts, illuminates and energises you and who, what and where does the complete opposite. When you can observe this you can react accordingly and make the conscious decisions and choices that work for you.
Boundaries are Key
During your process of remembering who you are as a spiritual being, your boundaries will automatically go up as you come more and more into yourself (“coming into your power”). When you start becoming aware of your thoughts, needs, habits, likes, dislikes, values, and emotional reactions, it helps you understand who you are. Knowing who you are, who you want to be, and where your boundaries are helps you establish positive relationships with like-minded people.
When you become aware of what is emotionally draining and stressful, you can learn to manage yourself in those situations. Learn to let go of what no longer feels right for you.
Learn to say no
No is a complete sentence. There is no need to feel guilty about expressing yourself. If you say no, it requires no further explanation. You may choose to say, “No, that’s not going to work for me,” or “No, that’s not going to be possible.” Nothing else is required.
It’s important to express how you feel and ask for what you need. This is about finding your voice and making sure you are valued, by setting up healthy boundaries that empower both you and the others in your life. And Remember…..
Giving anyone and everyone access to your energy is poor, spiritual hygiene.
